In his book, Power Encounters: Reclaiming Spiritual Warfare, author David Powlison seeks to reveal and correct the disturbing truth behind society’s infatuation and misinterpretation of spiritual war.

A Theology of Christian Counseling is a long book, consisting of 326 pages, including 25 chapters. Due to the large volume of content and for the purposes of this critique, I will treat Adam’s book in terms of three headings; general theology, topical theology, and applied theology (headings mine, not Adams’).

I found the book as a whole to be a helpful unpacking of the sufficiency of Scripture as well as in magnifying the jurisdiction of the Bible in Christian counseling. Totally Sufficient is an impactful resource for anyone interested in gaining a better grasp on the tension between psychology and biblical counseling in light of Scripture.
